Diagnostic Imaging

Our diagnostic imaging department is well equipped to provide our vets with the information they need to diagnose what is wrong and help your pet get better.

Radiology

Radiographs (also known as X-rays) are an essential tool for diagnosing a wide range of conditions from cardiac and respiratory disease to bone fractures and even abdominal illnesses. By performing radiographs on site we get results immediately, facilitating the treatment of even the most urgent problems. Dr. Craig Reeves is also accredited as a Penn Hip radiologist to provide you with the most effective means of screening young dogs for their risk of developing hip dysplasia.

Ultrasonography

Veterinary ultrasoundUltrasonography is the use of sound waves to create images of internal structures. You have probably seen ultrasound images of babies during pregnancy. We use ultrasonography for confirming pregnancy and evaluating the health of puppies and kittens too. However this is just the tip of the iceberg. Ultrasonography is also an extremely powerful tool for diagnosing internal disease in our pets. In many cases biopsies can be obtained under ultrasound guidance to determine whether a growth is cancerous or not. This frequently avoids the need to put your pet through the trauma and expense of exploratory surgery. Berwick Springs Veterinary Hospital is fortunate to have vets with exceptionally advanced skills in ultrasonography, often performing referral ultrasound scans for other clinics.

Endoscopy

Veterinary Endoscopy

Endoscopy is the use of a camera on a flexible tube which can be passed into narrow spaces inside your pet to see what is going on. This allows abnormalities of the gastrointestinal and respiratory systems to be visualized and also allows biopsy samples to be collected for pathology if required. An endoscope can even be used for removing foreign objects from the oesophagus and stomach. There are many diseases that can only be diagnosed using endoscopy and many more diseases where surgery can be avoided by using endoscopy instead. Gastroscopy (evaluation of the oesophagus and stomach), colonoscopy (evaluation of the large bowel), bronchoscopy (evaluation of the airways) and rhinoscopy (evaluation of the nose) are all performed at Berwick Springs Vet Clinic and Hospital
